For Immediate release,
December 4, 2007
Who: Donna Dillman, 53 year
old grandmother in her 59th day (as of Wednesday December 5th)
without food; Dr. Gordon Edwards, Cofounder and President of Canadian
Coalition for Nuclear Responsibility, and Bruce Cox, Executive
Director, GreenPeace.
When: Wednesday, December
3rd, 11 a.m. - Noon
Where: In the legislative
Media Gallery
Why: Last Wednesday, Dillman
met with Premier McGuinty and informed him that 80% of Canada's
uranium is exported. She was stunned to learn that neither he,
nor Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines,
knew this detail. This government is willing to put over a million
people at risk of increased illness and death to supply the US,
Germany and perhaps China with uranium.

On Wednesday, November 28th,
2007, Premier McGuinty met with Dillman at Queen's Park and informed
her that, because uranium is needed to feed nuclear power plants
- to insure that the lights remain on in the province - there
would be no announcement of a moratorium on uranium exploration
and mining in Eastern Ontario.
Dillman informed them that
Canada currently exports 80% of its uranium, and asked why it
would be necessary to put a million people, living downstream,
at risk when so much uranium was already available in this country.
Neither McGuinty nor Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development
and Mines, were aware of this fact, but McGuinty committed to
checking out the information and to get back to her. As Dillman
has been without food for almost 2 months, she requested that
he respond quickly, but six days have passed and she has yet to
hear from McGuinty.
Dillman will make a heartfelt
plea for the community affected, for the local environment and
for the long-term wellbeing of those living downstream and those
not yet born. Edwards will follow with the impacts of uranium
and radioactivity on health and Cox will end with an overview.
