Media Alert
November 23, 2007
Who:
Donna Dillman, on her 47th (as of Fri. Nov 23) day without food
What:
Arriving at Queen's Park to continue her protest against uranium
exploration and mining.
Where:
At the corner of University and Orde (one block south of College,
at Princess Margaret Hospital) on a march to Queen’s Park
When:
Tues, Nov 27th, 2007 at: 11:00 am
Why:
To keep the pressure on Premier Dalton McGuinty to call a moratorium
on uranium exploration and mining in eastern Ontario.
In a letter dated November 14, 2007, Frontenac Ventures, a uranium
exploration company, leaves the door open to pursue "additional
contempt charges with respect to any individual's conduct including
the erection of any tent, trailer, furniture, etc. within 200
metres of the gate in the future if deemed appropriate."
Donna
Dillman moved into a tent-trailer on the site, on October 8th.
She has not eaten since, in an attempt to effect a moratorium
on uranium exploration and mining in eastern Ontario. Her argument
is not with the exploration company, but rather with the Ontario
government. After 45 days without food and feeling threatened
with contempt charges if she does not remove the tent-trailer,
she has decided to leave the side of the road and, instead, take
her protest to Queen's Park.
After
Frontenac Ventures staked 30,000 acres for uranium exploration
upriver of Ottawa, the Ardoch First Nation and the Shabot Obaadjiwan
First Nations Blockaded the mine site entrance at Robertsville.
Supported by a large contingency of non-native community members
from Peterborough through to Ottawa, the FN remained behind the
gate for 101 days, until they were successful in their demand
for negotiations with the Provincial and Federal Governments.
