The Mississippi Valley Field Naturalists (MVFN) is a group of people who share an interest in, and respect for, the natural world within the Mississippi River watershed of Eastern Ontario. Founded in 1988, MVFN endeavours to increase public interest in, knowledge and understanding of, and appreciation and respect for the natural world within the Mississippi River watershed.

MVFN is also concerned about the protection of the environment including the watershed and has been following this Uranium threat as a source water protection issue. MVFN as a Water Guardian reported this as a threat to the newly forming Source water protection committee being chaired by the Rideau and Mississippi Valley Conservation authorities.

After reviewing your recent letter to the premier, a motion was passed by our board of directors to provide the CCAMU with a letter supporting its request for an immediate moratorium on uranium mining and exploration in Eastern Ontario pending a full and comprehensive review of the Ontario Mining Act.

With respect to the above, this letter is provided to confirm that Mississippi Valley Field Naturalists (MVFN) Association executive support the CCAMU request that the Ontario government enact an immediate moratorium on uranium exploration, mining and processing in Eastern Ontario and initiate a comprehensive and public review of the Ontario Mining Act.
