Background Information on CCAMU |
|
The Community Coalition Against Mining Uranium is a group of concerned citizens from the greater Ottawa Valley and Kingston area, who have come together to actively oppose uranium exploration and mining in Frontenac and Lanark region. They have been working along side the Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation and Ardoch Algonquin First Nation, who are the native groups involved in the protest. Scientific experts claim that if a mine is developed it would leach radioactive material, which has a half-life of 4.5 billion years, down the entire Mississippi watershed all the way to Ottawa. *Over 5000 people have signed our petition calling for a moratorium in Eastern Ontario. *14 regional townships have passed resolutions to petition the province for a uranium mining moratorium, including the Cities of Ottawa and Kingston. *Dozens of organizations have also given CCAMU letters of support. To see the letters of support go to the LETTERS OF SUPPORT tab on our website. To read the full detailed history of the protest click on the HISTORY tab on our website.
