Letter of Support Bedford Mining Alert

August 20, 2007

To: Community Coalition Against Mining Uranium (CCAMU)

BMA is a group of citizens in Bedford district of South Frontenac from many backgrounds, political persuasions and interests who recognize the importance of sustaining growth in our region that is compatible with exiting land use. In recent years, there has been an increase in mining claim-staking activity in our region, a precursor to advanced exploration activities and mineral extraction.

For the last six years, Bedford Mining Alert has been working to bring the Mining Act of Ontario out of the 19th century and into the 21st century in order to protect the legitimate interests of landowners and communities dependent upon environmental, recreational and tourism activities for their economic well-being while permitting legitimate, environmentally responsible, and economically sustainable mining activities.

Bedford Mining Alert supports the efforts of the Community Coalition Against Mining Uranium to request that the Ontario government initiate a public review of Ontario's Mining Act and enact an immediate moratorium on uranium exploration, mining and processing in eastern Ontario.

Sincerely,

Marilyn Crawford
